Among the pearls of the Fermano hinterland lies the municipality of Monterubbiano. Already in the early 20th century it stood out as a tourist destination for sea and mountain vacations thanks to its happy location: at 463m asl and 6 km as the crow flies from the Adriatic. Its history is rooted in the Neolithic, however the village played a leading role especially in the Roman and medieval eras, as evidenced by the artifacts in the archaeological museum.

Actually, to be able to speak of a single fortified center one must wait until the last thirty years of the 12th century, when the merger of the settlements of three castles occurred: Orbanium, Coccaro and Montotto. Contended by Fermo for its peculiar strategic position, Monterubbiano fell in 1433 under the rule of Francesco Sforza, who provided for a restructuring of the defense system, characterized by about 2 km of fortified walls, with 5 gates to the town. In 1860 the town was involved in a substantial building renovation with the construction of the neoclassical Monumental Cemetery, the Pagani Theater and the San Rocco Park, thanks to the important work of architect Luca Galli. In addition to its historical-artistic beauty, the center has always been linked to religious, folkloristic and enogastronomic traditions, which it revives with the solemn procession of the Dead Christ, the historical re-enactment of the “Sciò la Pica” on Pentecost Day and the various festivals that enhance the local cuisine.

One of the most important is that of FRYED TAGLIATELLE, the typical dish that has made the town’s history: born by chance, it has become an important attraction for visitors. In addition, since 2001 this town has been awarded the “Orange Flag” mark, a recognition of tourist and environmental quality for inland towns by the Italian Touring Club.

The many accommodations, offering services and local cuisine, ensure a homely and welcoming atmosphere for tourists.
